Windows 8 developer preview reviewed

I am definitely not going to put craps here by giving the specifications and technology used in windows 8 because you can get it anywhere on msdn articles (thousands are out there) just google it.
I m just reviewing it as general experience i had with my PC today.


It was though my worst day this year but then too enjoyed a lot in playing 'johny'(it's a integrated game in windows 8 developer preview) ,huh,,it doesn't mean that i have played just johny whole day rather i have tried new features .Man!! it has a fantastic interface,absolutely delicious,yummy. The start menu is so flexible there ,i mean you don't have to do anything like there in windows 7 like going to start menu and selecting the program or accessories or bla bla to switch over to the issue(i often use this word for programs) ,you just have to press the start menu write down there and new beautiful screen will appear containing your apps the applications you visited recently and storing the same sessions where you left it off.
Above was just the introduction of what i felt today .
Installation - With me it became trajedy and fun side by side because in an excitement i forgot to install it on virtual machine and uploaded or installed it on my main machine without caring about my document and still i am paying for that by trying to install the softwares and apps on my preview(the whole day was wonderfully hectic). It just asks for your WINDOWS LIVE ID during installation and if you don't have it then it makes one.
you need to log on to use this PC and this PC gets registered through your LIVE ID .

Usage - Restart the PC because if you don't then it crashes sometimes like hell.After restarting your PC you will get to see the screen as a background which you can change  later ,click on the bottim of that screen and you will get to see your main LOG ON page enter your password there(WINDOWS LIVE ID PASSWORD) and enter in a new world .Clicking on the start menu will lead you to tab view
where you can see your recent sessions and apps installed in your PC  such as VISUAL STUDIO 11 and .net framework 4.5.

IIM's Placement

AHMEDABAD: The Indian Institutes of Management are getting innovative with their placement process to beat recession. IIM-Indore has partnered with some placement consultancy firms to help 100-130 participants who might look for jobs at the end of placements.

Anmol Bhalla, coordinator (placement committee) IIM-Indore , said: "The idea is to get jobs in line with students' expectations, both in terms of profiles and salaries." As the number of regular recruiters is likely to drop this year, IIM-Kozhikode is allowing students to accept only one offer as compared to previous years when each student was spoilt for choice.

"Recruiters have definitely become more cautious," said G Sridhar , chairperson, placements, IIMKozhikode . "Many regular recruiters who previously hired in large numbers have decreased their hiring and many others have declined to participate in placements this year."

Similarly, IIM-Bangalore has tweaked its placement process this year. Placements 2012 at IIM-B will be held only on weekends, replacing the earlier process where placements were carried out for five days without a break. "Many more new sectors and areas have been added - like e-commerce , human resources, among others," aid Rajesh Aithal, chairperson, placements at IIMLucknow .

Atreyi Bose, member, student placement committee, IIM Ahmedabad , said: "We are reaching out to new companies and sectors which students have shown interest in joining." Companies are still sourcing for talent from campuses and are keen to be a part of the process , Bose added.

"While companies are more skeptical than they were in 2009, it is a good sign that they have not stopped hiring," Sridhar said. "It will take slightly longer than usual to place the entire batch this year."

Southampton B.E admission started

Attending schools and Getting into IIT

It has been a myth that bunking from the schools for getting prepared for the iit-jee will assure your selection but from this new plan published in my last post that 'IIT WILL INCLUDE 40% BOARD MARKS IN IT'S SELECTION CRITERIA' ,It will be necessary for the students to attend their schools properly.


NEW DELHI: Performing well in school will become more important for IIT aspirants from 2013. It's almost decided now that at least 40% weightage will be given to class XII marks for admission to the 15 IITs as well as other engineering institutes in the country.

No wonder schools are elated. Calling it a step in the right direction, principals say the new policy will make sure that science students preparing for engineering entrance exams in class XII attend classes and focus equally on their Board exams. The move is also aimed at curbing the business of coaching centres which simply 'equip' candidates to crack competitive exams caring little for concept-based teaching.

"It's a right step as now students will focus more on school. Many children in classes XI and XII skip classes to go for coaching. Or they often have long classes after which they do not attend school to do self-study. The coaching institutes only equip students to crack an exam. Parents' money also gets wasted in the process as not all can get through," said L V Sehgal, principal, Bal Bharati School, Ganga Ram Hospital Marg.

D R Saini, principal, DPS R K Puram, added, "Education should be wholesome. But these days some schools have come up which tie up with coaching institutes. These schools just charge fees for enrolment without the need to attend classes. They, instead, let students spend their time preparing for competitive exams at coaching centres. The new admission policy for IITs will put a stop to that practice. Besides school performance, the candidates will be evaluated through a common aptitude test in place of JEE and AIEEE. According to D V Khakhar, director, IIT-Bombay, a single test will also help get rid of the multiplicity of entrance exams. "Students, who have done well in school, are welcome in IITs. It's time coaching centres were regulated."

The Joint Admission Board of IITs will take a final decision on the policy at its February 18 meeting, however, coaching centres say they will not be out of business. "We train students for competitive exams. We will absorb the changes introduced in the entrance test and adapt ourselves to new training methodology. Besides, we make sure our students focus on school," said Ajay Antony, course director, TIME. K Gopal, director, Narayana Institute, added, "With school performance being considered, students will have to perform much better in class XII Boards too. They can't score in the nineties without special assistance. That's where we come in. Not just for competitive exams, students need coaching institutes for doing well in the Boards too."

Aspirants have their own concerns. Shekhar Chaudhry, a class XI student from Janakpuri, who travels to Ber Sarai for IIT coaching every day, said, "Many like me have already enrolled in a two-year programme to prepare for IIT-JEE. Such a change should have been introduced from 2014."

IIT JEE set to go, 40% weightage for Class 12

A common aptitude-cum-advanced knowledge test will replace the IIT Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) in 2013. Test scores will have 60 per cent weight in deciding admissions; school board marks will have 40 per cent. Test and board scores will determine admissions to all centrally funded engineering institutions.

The common entrance exam, planned as a SAT-type test, is likely to be held online from 2014, and could be given twice a year, highly placed sources said. The paper test is likely to stay on until the online system stabilizes.

The NIT council has approved the new format. All the IITs have agreed too, and are likely to give their formal approval at a meeting of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) on February 18. The human resource development (HRD) ministry has formed a committee of IIT directors and CBSE officials to work out the modalities before the meeting.

The ministry has been working on a common entrance format for over a year, with the aim of reducing the stress of taking multiple tests for students just out of Class 12, checking the coaching business which promotes learning by rote, and reinforcing the importance of school education.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal plans to take the proposal to the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) to help build acceptability and consensus for the common entrance test among state governments.

“The common entrance exam will have two elements — simple aptitude testing to assess scholastic levels, and an advanced section which a student can choose to either continue with or skip,” said a source.

“This test will essentially produce only scorecards for each student, and the concerned institute will then decide how it will use the 60 per cent weight — say, an IIT can rely more on scores achieved on the advanced level section than on aptitude. It could be a 30-30 aptitude-advanced knowledge format for IITs, and 40-20 for NITs,” the source said.

“While AIEEE and JEE will go, the JAB and the Central Counselling Board (CCB) will stay to work on these finer points and modalities of admission.”

The JEE currently decides admissions to the 15 IITs; the AIEEE to the 30 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 4 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and 5 Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research (IISERs). A host of private engineering and technical institutes in the states also use AIEEE scores. Over 10 lakh students apply for AIEEE and 5 lakh for JEE every year.

IIT-JEE may consider online test

MUMBAI: The Indian Institutes of Technology could be thinking of conducting an online joint entrance examination (JEE), on the lines of the Indian Institutes of Management. While the common admission test (CAT) for entry into IIMs went online three years ago, the IITs are yet to take the big step.

The IIT-Delhi, which is organizing IIT-JEE 2012, has invited all IIT directors for a workshop on Friday, where an online model will be demonstrated. The JEE office is hosting the workshop. Sources from IIT-Delhi have confirmed that Education Testing Services (ETS), which conducts the GRE and several other popular global online examinations, will make a presentation at the workshop.



Most officials on record denied plans to go online with JEE. A senior official from one of the IITs claimed that the workshop was scheduled to discuss the possibilities of an online examination for JEE. "We might just discuss the feasibility. No decision has been taken," said the official.

A senior IIT-B professor said, "An online exam may or may not work for JEE. While CAT faced teething problems initially, it is stabilized now. For an exam, where you need to calculate a lot, pen and paper seems to be a better option. But students these days are well versed with technology and in future, everything might be computerized."

Currently, only two directors have responded to the invitation, claimed an official from IIT-Delhi. "Experts from ETS will make a presentation and showcase their testing systems. It is a successful testing pattern in the US. But there will not be any overnight decision on JEE going online," said the official.

MAIN IIT-JEE PATTERN DECIDED FOR 2013

KANPUR: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are all set to bring a whole new change in the pattern of Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) organised every year across the country. The changed exam pattern would be followed from the year 2013.

The new pattern of JEE would include conducting an aptitude test for the exam aspirants. The students will have to crack this aptitude test consisting of questions based on reasoning and all other subjects that the students have studied in their schools. But it is worth mentioning here that the aptitude test would also include questions related to subjects like physics, chemistry and maths.

This arrangement has been proposed in the IIT Council meeting held in Delhi on September 14 with an aim to reduce the pressure on the students.

Talking to journalists, IIT-Kanpur director Sanjay Govind Dhande said that the aim is to respect every subject that a student has studied be it history, geography or any other subject. He said that this is possible only by conducting an aptitude test which will have both qualitative and quantitive reasoning questions to solve for the students.

Dhande said it was discussed during the IIT Council meeting that instead of calculating the performance of the students on the basis of percentages received in their class XII, the weightage must be given to the percentile.

He also mentioned that it is an extremely tough task to bring about a uniformity in the percentages achieved by the students in their class XII results as the percentage achieved by a student in one state board varies from the percentage achieved by other student in some other state board. For bringing this uniformity, the percentages of students would be converted into percentiles and this would be used for further comparisons among the students.

"As different states have different boards and there are only two Central boards - CBSE and ICSE, it will be a difficult task to establish a uniformity in the percentages achieved by an individual student when comparing his performance with the other individuals. For this, the percentage of marks achieved by the students would be converted into a percentile. This would be done through virtual mapping by Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata", said Dhande while explaining about the proposed way through which the percentages achieved by students in class XII in their different state boards would be brought at a uniform scale.

He further said that the 50% weightage would be given to this percentile performance and other 50% weightage would be given to the performance in the JEE. It would be on the basis of these two performances that the students' ranks in the JEE would be assessed.

Dhande also added that there are 42 state boards and because of this reason, some kind of uniformity has to be established to match the performance of the individual students (in their class XII) with each other. And when so many boards are there and each one of them has its importance, the percentile match is the only way out to calculate the student's performance.

Dhande said that these recommendations have been given by Ramaswamy committee to the ministry of human resource and development but at this stage, the plan has not been approved by the government.

He added that as soon as the notification for the same will come, the changes would be made in the pattern of JEE.
